Берлинский воздушный мост
События 1948-го, блокада западного Берлина.
Далеко не все знают, что такое берлинский воздушный мост. Между тем, этот термин имеет самое прямое отношение к истории нашей страны. Связанные с ним события происходили в 1948 году в уже разделённой между СССР и бывшими союзниками немецкой столице.
В ночь на 24 июня 1948 года во всём Берлине отключили свет. Советские войска перекрыли все пути, ведущие в западную часть Берлина: сухопутные, железнодорожные и водные. Расквартированные гарнизоны войск Великобритании, США и Франции стали отрезанными от баз снабжения. Так началась блокада западного Берлина. В секторах союзников оставалось еды на 35 дней и топлива на 45. Сталин рассчитывал вынудить союзников по антигитлеровской коалиции сдать позиции и покинуть город. Но просчитался. В Белом Доме и английском кабинете министров установили стальные двери, а уже после решили ни под каким видом не покидать Берлин и установить связь с ним по воздуху. Уже через два дня после начала блокады в аэропорту Темпельхоф совершил посадку первый американский самолёт с продуктами питания для блокированного Берлина. Ответ американцев привёл Москву в замешательство. Но сбивать транспортные самолёты Сталин не мог, так как это означало бы войну. Поначалу рейды транспортных самолётов были довольно хаотичными, затем их упорядочили. Всем пилотам была предоставлена лишь одна попытка посадки. И если она проваливалась, самолёт отправляли обратно. Из-за этого самолёты в Берлине приземлялись каждые 3 минуты. Самолёт C-54, главный транспорт воздушного моста, вмещал 12 тонн. Наземная команда на базе загружала его за 6 минут. В Берлине немцы разгружали его за 15. Приземляться можно было лишь на двух аэродромах. Они были окружены жилыми районами, поэтому перед заходом на посадку самолёты летели между двумя рядами семиэтажных домов. В ноябре 1948 года в Берлине были густые туманы, 17 самолётов разбились.
Ежедневно самолёты поставляли в город по 4500 тонн различных грузов: продовольствия, медикаменты, уголь, бензин, стройматериалы. Это позволяло лишь выжить двум миллионам горожан. Берлинцы делали вылазки за продовольствием в советскую зону, торговали, обменивались на берлинских улицах и площадях. Воздушный мост работал как часы. Тоннаж грузов превысил 200 тысяч тонн в месяц. Восточно-германского шпиона, который докладывал своему начальству о том, как производилась разгрузка самолётов, отозвали домой. В восточном Берлине никто не мог поверить в то, что такие цифры возможны.
В мае 1949-го из-за полной бесперспективности затеи Сталин блокаду западного Берлина снял, а продолжалась она 11 месяцев.
